Mikania micrantha, native to Central and South America, grows rapidly and reproduces at an astonishing rate. It is one of the most invasive alien plants in Taiwan. By quickly climbing over and covering native plants, it blocks sunlight and disrupts the ecological balance, earning the nickname “Green Cancer.”
On August 10, Everlight Chemical’s Sustainability Office joined forces with Plant III, the Human Resources Department, and participants from the 24th Seed Talent Program (STP) to roll up their sleeves and remove Mikania micrantha along the Laojie Creek in Taoyuan.
Beyond just clearing invasive species, we transformed them into eco-friendly handmade soap — taking action to protect biodiversity and using creativity to give invasive plants a new life!
