Near the four factories of Everlight Chemical are two of the most protected coastlines in Taiwan – Guanxin Algae Reef and Caoluo Sand Dunes. In order to promote the circular economy and implement environmental protection, the headquarters held a sustainable trip for the first time on October 21, 2023. More than 30 colleagues and their families visited the fourth factory and well-known ecological attractions.
From Dayuan District in Taoyuan City to Guanyin District, Everlight Chemical’s four factories are close to the seaside, including the world-famous “Guanxin Algae Reef”, Taiwan’s first sand dune geopark “Caoluo Dunes” which from Laojie Creek of Dayuan running through the mother rivers “Ohori River” of Guanyin and Fulin River, have rich ecological landscapes.
Everlight Chemical has always attached great importance to environmental protection. In recent years, General Manager Chen Wei-Wang has actively promoted circular economy, planned education and training itineraries, and invited colleagues from the headquarters to take their families to participate in the sustainability trip to understand the natural ecology near the factory and care for the environment with practical actions.
Nearby is the 7,000-year-old rare treasure of Guanxin Algae Reef
A group of more than 30 people first visited the country’s first algal reef ecological environment classroom. The tour guide helped the visitors understand the algal reefs and their impact on biodiversity through physical objects, photos, videos and answers.
“Walking along the Xinwu River which full of mangroves to the seaside, facing the wind-blown sand and strong sea breeze, we finally saw the precious algae reefs that have grown here for seven thousand years. We were deeply moved. They are truly beautiful and absolutely need to be well protection. Everyone immediately launched a beach cleanup operation to maintain the environment for the growth of algae reefs so that they can continue to grow.
Tour of green factory and sustainable resource museums
The Sustainable Resource Center, located next to No. 4 Factory of Everlight Chemical, is an education center on sustainable environment and resource reuse in Taoyuan City. The second floor is the people’s livelihood exhibition area. Through level-breaking games and interactive experiences, we explore daily popular science knowledge and embody the circular economy. The third floor displays the industry’s implementation of circular economy, including the application of UVA products by Everlight Chemical’s customers. In line with the theme of “Chemical Reduction”, Everlight Chemical was invited to showcase the “Environmental Dyeing and Finishing Solution”, which was unveiled at the end of November this year. What an exciting thing.
The fourth factory of Everlight Chemical was completed in 2016. It is the first green factory of Everlight Chemical. Many colleagues visited it for the first time. With pleasure and expectation, they listened to the guided tours of Director Liao Jia-Zhong and Manager Liu Zhi-Huang, and learned about the company’s continuous promotion of green chemistry. Everyone is proud of Everlight Chemical.
Long-term adoption of Guanyin Beach and Caoluo Sand Dunes
The Caoluo Sand Dunes, known as “Taiwan’s version of the Sahara Desert”, stretch for 8.1 kilometers from the mouth of Laojie Creek next to the No. 1 Factory to the mouth of Dahori Creek next to the No. 3 Factory. The dunes are undulating and the sand patterns are winding, contrasting with the rows of windmills to form an interesting scenery. Everlight No. 2 Factory has adopted it for a long time, and regularly initiate the beach and hill clean-up activities with colleagues to participate and carefully maintain this beautiful scenery.
Listening to the tour guide’s explanation of the coral reefs and rich coastal forest ecology of the dunes is amazing. Among them, salt-tolerant and wind-resistant plants such as lintou, casuarina, neem, dodder, castor, sea lemon, and henbane build a green fence for the white sand dunes.
Stretching coastline, stacked sand dunes, spreading dodders, swaying chrysanthemums… The sea breeze stirs up the waves, and the tranquility is a bit desolate. The scenery is attracting movie, TV series, photography experts, internet celebrities and tourists to come and take pictures. . Unfortunately, on that day there were dark clouds and strong winds blowing sand, so we could only get a quick glimpse. If it is a summer evening, standing on the top of the sand dune and watching the colorful clouds fill the sky and the sunset into the sea will give you a romantic feeling.
Work together to protect ocean and river ecology
The Taiwan Environmental Information Association selected “Nine Coastlines Worth Protecting in Taiwan”, and Guanxin Algae Reef and Caoluo Sand Dune were both selected. The four factories of Everlight Chemical are fortunate to be located around the beautiful coast of Taoyuan. We adopt practical actions to adopt beaches and rivers, care about environmental protection, and protect the beautiful ocean and river ecology.
General Manager Chen Wei-Wang said that Everlight Chemical has signed more cooperation memorandums with local authorities in Taoyuan Coast to work together to protect the precious ecology of the coast. In order to let colleagues understand the ecology near the factory, eco-tours will continue to be held.
In addition to the ecological attractions visited this time, there are also Xucugang Wetland, a nationally important wetland which is near by Everlight No. 1 Factory. Everlight No. 2 Factory has adopted the Dabaoxi Ecological Restoration Watershed and the Lotus Ecological Flood Storage Tank which is for the community flood control in Shulinli. Please wait and see and let us participate together.
